A pedigree of performance: the Burgon & Ball story

We’re known today for our fine garden tools, and for our endorsement by the Royal Horticultural Society. But did you know that Burgon & Ball has historic roots as a tool manufacturer, stretching right back to 1730?

That’s when we started working with steel in Sheffield, in England’s industrial heartland. It’s an area that’s been known for its skills in knives and steel since the 14th century, and we are proud to call it home.

This makes us the UK’s oldest creator of garden tools and accessories, and we still produce high quality steel tools in Sheffield. You can find out more about how our centuries of experience in steel help us make better tools here, or you can get a whistle-stop tour through the last 290+ years of Burgon & Ball here.

Our long history certainly gives us some interesting facts and figures. If you’d like to learn a bit more about us, get some fast facts here

  • Why were our shears used to shear a sheep on New Zealand national television?
  • Alan Titchmarsh and the team have used our tools on how many series of ITV’s ‘Love Your Garden’?
  • 25 million and counting… We have produced this extraordinary number of which of our products?

We’re proud of our heritage, but we never rest on our laurels! Although we made a name for ourselves as the producer of the world’s finest sheep shears, these days we’re probably better known for our wide range of high quality, gorgeous garden tools, as well as innovative gardening accessories.

Our UK-based design team is constantly working on ideas to make gardening easier, coming up with new solutions to real gardening problems. Keep losing your tools? Take a look at our FloraBrite range. Need something to help with kneeling? Try a Kneelo® memory foam garden kneeler!

So if you’re looking for garden tools with a pedigree of performance, you’ll find them with Burgon & Ball.

I thought as they were more expensive they would las me a bit longer. I love the bright pink colour as I have lost. A few secateurs my daughter bought them for me as a treat so can not tell her that they weren’t worthy the money
Have you had this problem I can not believe I am the only one

          • We would like to find a Burgan and Ball weed clippers . It works like scissors with a spring. I call it the singy songy, or wingy wongy. Because of the musical song as you clip, clip clip.
