Father’s Day gift guide: gorgeous gifts for fabulous fathers

Father’s Day is coming up fast – this year it’s on 18 June. So it’s really time to get organised with a little something to show him how much he means!

If you’re finding that this deadline puts the pressure on, don’t worry – we’re here to help. They say that men can be difficult to buy for, but if the man in your life is a gardener, the task of present procurement is made considerably easier.

There’s a rather special bond between a man and his shed, and we have some ideas to help celebrate his love for everything gardening this Father’s Day – as well as earning yourself some serious brownie points.

Of course, if you’re a dad yourself, you may want to make sure that this year Father’s Day brings you something you actually want for your gardening. If this is the case, feel free to direct your loved ones to the below for a little gift inspiration…!

Here are our top picks for Father’s Day gifts 2023.

RHS-endorsed Groundbreaker trowel. If he likes to really put his garden tools through their paces, this is the trowel for him. It’s new this year, and we’ve designed it to echo the pointed shape of our rather wonderful (if we say so ourselves) Groundbreaker spade. In fact, it’s not just us that thinks the spade is wonderful – it won House Beautiful’s Best Garden Product award when we launched it back in 2016. The trowel features the same pointed, sharpened, which slices effortlessly through even the most challenging ground, for faster, easier digging. This is a trowel that will help him power through the planting – and it’s a gift he’ll use and love for years to come.

Waterfall watering can. Last summer was an absolute scorcher, and keeping everything looking lush and leafy - or even keeping it alive - was a real challenge. This year’s shaping up to bring plenty of hot weather too, so what could be better for any gardener than a sturdy watering can? Our Waterfall can has classic good looks and is available in a choice of colours and sizes, so there’s bound to be one which suits him down to the ground. In robust galvanized steel with a durable powder coating, the slimline design eliminates painful bumps to the knees, and the clever weighting works with gravity for ‘automatic’ pouring – it naturally tilts forward as it empties. Help Dad beat the hosepipe ban this year with one of these handsome watering cans.

National Trust secateur. Our ‘National Trust Made by Burgon & Ball’ collection of garden tools is the result of our collaboration with Europe’s largest conservation charity. These tools have a beautiful heritage look, with dark wood handles and touches of brass. This secateur is constructed in drop forged stainless steel, for a winning combination of rust resistance and lasting sharpness. It’s even presented in a smart gift box with a touch of gold foil, making it a really gorgeous gift. This range benefits the National Trust too, with a percentage of revenue from sales supporting the charity's conservation activities.

Kneelo® knee pads. These knee pads are the most comfort his knees will ever know! These are our original memory foam knee pads, with generous twin layers of memory foam around a lightweight foam core. We’ve recently re-engineered them, adding 30 per cent more foam, so they’re better than ever! The unique cut-out design means they don’t ride up or dig in uncomfortably when kneeling. They’re great in the garden so he can wander as he works, without the fuss of carrying a kneeler. They’re great for DIY, too, and for any hobby which involves kneeling – like car or bike maintenance, for example. These are sure to be his new go-to garden accessory.

Corona anvil action ratchet pruner. This range of high-performance tools from the USA is known for its durability and reliability. In North America it’s a name that’s trusted by keen gardeners and professional landscapers alike, so you know that you’ll be giving a Father’s Day gift which will stand up to some pretty robust treatment. This heavy duty ratchet pruner was awarded ‘Best Buy’ by Gardeners’ World which rated the powerful cutting action, comfortable handles and four-stage ratchet action. If Dad likes to do a proper job when it comes to pruning, this is this the perfect gardening gadget for him.

Dig The Glove gardening gloves. You can’t go wrong with a smart new pair of gardening gloves! Our Dig The Glove range features classic and comfortable fabrics like tweed, denim, and corduroy. Each design is available in a choice of sizes for a good fit. Padded palm and fingers protect the hand, and mesh fourchettes (that’s the material on the side of each finger, joining the front to the back of the gloves) keep things nice and cool. A wrist strap prevents debris dropping into the glove, and real leather trim adds a touch of luxury. These gloves are a cut above in the style stakes!

Everyone loves a practical gift, but ‘practical’ doesn’t have to mean ‘dull’! Inspire Dad to enjoy his garden even more this year, with a stylish but very useful gift to help him hit the gardening heights.
