Passionate about pots: our new RHS-endorsed tools for container gardening

We love gardening with containers. We love that satisfaction we get when we create something new, beautiful and colourful for the garden in just an hour or two. Or maybe it's the knowledge that we've made a bulb lasagna to surprise us in the spring - we can't remember what's in it, but we know it's going to be lovely!

Whether it's a window box packed with cyclamen and violas to brighten our winter view, or a gorgeous pot of cheery daffs to welcome spring, or even a patio planter of potatoes... we love them all.

And they're so flexible. Move them around, showcase this week's best performer on the doorstep, stack them en masse for impact, or just opt for a single one for a focal point... they're just superb for adding interest to the garden.

But we couldn't help feeling that sometimes we needed some special tools, created specifically for using with containers. A bigger compost scoop. A daintier weeder. A knife that's perfect for freeing roots from pots.

So that's how, with our partners at the Royal Horticultural Society, we came to develop our new RHS-endorsed container gardening tools, to offer the perfect way to plant, weed and maintain container displays quickly and easily.

The range includes a container weeder, with a compact head and inwards-turned blade to protect plant stems from accidental damage, which is ideal for scraping off moss, weeding and turning over the soil. Then there’s a container scoop, with an innovative scoop collar to prevent spills and mess, and its generous size makes it a faster filler!

Completing the line-up there’s a container root and transplanting knife. A dished, double-edge blade which is serrated on one side makes this multi-purpose knife ideal for sliding round pots to release the plants within, making holes for planting and making tight holes to add plants to add to existing displays.

Of course, the collection is equally suitable for use in raised beds – after all, aren't they simply containers on a grand scale?! Here too these new tools are ideal, as raised beds also present the problem of working in a tight space, and the requirement to weed, remove moss, and separate out individual plants.

All tools in our new RHS-endorsed container gardening collection are crafted in steel with FSC-certified wooden handles. Prices range from £11.99 to £16.99, and for peace of mind, all tools come with a ten-year guarantee.
